Within the Eldorado National Forest area a great number of places for either a day hike or an overnight hike. As this web page evolves, ENFIA will identify some of the better locations so that you might enjoy them.
Initially we will concentrate on the area around Carson Pass. As time permits we will continue to add more to the "Trails and Places".
If you are interested in history, be sure to visit the triangulation station on top of Round Top Mountain. What is a "triangulation station"? Check out the Triangulation Station on top of Round Top Mountain page to get an idea of what it was and why it was put there.
One of the great wildflower trails is the Schneider Camp Trail. Check out the trails from this area on the Schneider Camp Trail page.
If you are interested in the greater Carson Pass area and do not find what you are looking for on this web page, see the ENFIA book, Hiking the Greater Carson Pass Region, available for purchase at the Carson Pass Information Station and the
Forest Service Station in Pioneer. Several of the resorts in the greater Carson Pass area also sell the book.
Remember, there are dozens of wonderful trails outside the Carson Pass area too. Many of these lead to wonderful wildflower areas, pristine crystal mountain lakes and great fishing. Along the Highway 50 corridor the Crystal Basin Recreation Area is a beautiful area with many lakes including close by Wright’s Lake, and of course, don’t forget the Georgetown Ranger District that has some gorgeous scenery, and at a lower elevation. For more information check out our link to the Eldorado National Forest website. This great information piece tells you something about each trail, the elevation and the level of difficulty.
