TRAILS AND PLACES
|
Within the Eldorado National Forest are a great number of places that one can hike for a day or for a much longer time. As this web page evolves, ENFIA will identify some to many of these locations so that you to might enjoy them also.
Initially, we will concentrate on the area around Carson Pass. Then as time permits, we will continue to add more and more "Trails and Places." Here are a few places or trail that you might consider enjoying: If you are interested in history, be sure to visit the triangulation station on top of Round Top Mountain. What is a "triangulation station?" The Triangulation Station on top of Round Top Mountain page will give an idea of what it was and why it was put there. One area accessible from Carson Pass that is not well known but should be because of its beauty is Meiss Country. Every year more and more people seem to be hiking some or all of the Pacific Crest Trail. Since the PCT passes right by the Carson Pass Information Station, we the volunteers who staff the Carson Pass Information Station get to talk to many of the trekkers who make the annual migration north (sometimes they also go south). To see what what is involved, visit the Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail page. The trails that begin at Schneider Camp are identified on the Schneider Camp Trails page. Several other locations or trails are described on the Lets go Hiking . . . page. Other locations within the greater Carson Pass area will be added as we have time to develop sufficient information about them. If you are interested in the greater Carson Pass area and do not find what you are looking for on this web page, see the ENFIA book, Hiking the Greater Carson Pass Region, available for purchase at the Carson Pass Information Station and the Forest Service Station in Pioneer. Several of the resorts in the greater Carson Pass area also sell the book. |
