The management of ENFIA's activities is handled by a five-person Board of Directors and six Independent Contractors who serve as staff. The Board Members are ENFIA volunteers who are elected from the ENFIA membership for staggered two-year terms. The Board elects a President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary from among the members of the Board. Each of these officers serve one-year terms. The six people who carry out some of the duties of the organization are paid for their services. The duties performed are those that have grown too demanding for volunteers to perform.

BOARD MEMBER DUTIES

  1. Attendance at board meetings notifying the president if unable to do so. The meetings will be held at the discretion of the board, day, time, and location to be agreeable to all members.

  2. Recommend and approve projects that further the goals of the mission statement and the ENFIA agreement with the Forest Service.

  3. Plan yearly events, and general meetings.

  4. Oversee the financial affairs of ENFIA.

  5. Serve as an officer of the board.

In addition to the elected officers that serve ENFIA, there is an official liaison between the Forest and ENFIA appointed by the Eldorado National Forest. The current Liaison is:

Kristi Schroeder
Office: 530-295-5610
Cell: 530-305-6864

ENFIA also has a Membership Coordinator, a volunteer, who updates the membership list and monitors membership renewals.

SERVING AS AN OFFICER

Being on the ENFIA Board of Directors does not take much time. We meet on a Tuesday evening in Placerville for about three hours every month or so. The President does have some continuing work to do, but the other Board-elected officers seldom have Board-delegated duties that take much time. Of course, some people enjoy doing more and consequently they volunteer to do more than just be a Board Member.

Because the terms of office on the Board are staggered, ENFIA holds an election during the annual Fall General Membership Meeting. If you are interested in serving on the Board (it is interesting), let the President know and attend one of our General Meetings.

DUTIES OF ENFIA OFFICERS

President: Prepares the agenda for and presides over the board meetings and general meetings. Represents ENFIA with the Forest Service. Composes and sends correspondence.

Vice President: Substitutes for the president when necessary. Serves as general meeting program coordinator.

Secretary: Takes minutes at board meetings and provides a printed copy to each board member and the Forest Service Liaison.

Treasurer: Serves as support to the Business Manager.

Member at Large: Tasks to be delegated by the President.

Members of the Board of Directors are elected by the Board to these positions in January. The term of office is one year.

INDEPENDENT CONTRACTORS

As ENFIA has grown, the work to be done to keep the organization operating efficiently has become more and more demanding. Consequently, the Board decided several years ago to contract out some of the work that had been done by volunteers. The amount of this contracted-out work has continued to grow and today there are five Independent Contractors doing some kind of work for ENFIA.

When the Board decides that some additional work should be contracted out, applications are solicited and, hopefully, a person is found to take on the work specified. A contract is negotiated between the interested person and the Business Manager. The contract specifies the work to be done, the amount to be paid for the services performed, and contract period. In addition, the contract requires that the contractor attend all Board Meetings.
