The Information Station at Carson Pass was constructed, is maintained and staffed by volunteers.

BUILDING THE STATION

For a number of years, the USDA Forest Service Carson Pass Information Station was located in a converted forest service outhouse. Because that facility was totally inadequate, it was decided that a new, larger structure was needed. This decision led to building a new facility (shown above) next to the parking lot at Carson Pass on Highway 88. That was done with mostly volunteer labor.

Building a log structure in the mountainous snow country involved an interesting learning process. To see what was involved, go to the Building the Station page. That page plus the Construction Details page will give you an idea of what is involved in building a log structure in mountainous snow country. We obviously learned enough that we were able to build the station and even get an award for doing so.
